PM urges voters to free themselves from their clutches, give BJP a chance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses an election rally in support of BJP candidates in Nizamabad, Tuesday, Nov 27, 2018.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday attacked the Congress and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) stating that they are both family-run parties, whose focus is away from the development and welfare.

He urged the Telangana electorate to free themselves from the clutches of these two parties and give the BJP a chance to transform the State.

Stating that both — the Sonia Gandhi’s party (Congress), which is into the fourth generation and K Chandrasekhar Rao-headed TRS — are family-run, the Prime Minister said their agenda has meant neglect of development in Telangana.

Addressing two major election rallies in Telangana, which goes to polls on December 7, at Nizamabad and Mahabubnagar (Palamuru), Modi said, “It is unfortunate that a State graced by Krishna river has such dry tracts that local people have to travel to other parts of the country to find jobs, leaving their farm lands.”

At Palamuru, he said, “While workers from Telangana help construct a number of dams, they do not have water for farming, drinking and to meet their own requirements. This needs to change.”

He said such a situation was due to 70 years of misrule by the Congress and four and a half year’s of KCR governance.

Apologising to many in the rally having to stand in the sun as there was gross miscalculation in the number of people who would turn out, he assured them that he will repay with interest and required development, the next time they spend to listen to him.

Taking on the TRS chief, he said KCR did his apprenticeship with N Chandrababu Naidu and later under Sonia Gandhi during the UPA regime as a Minister. He is now trying to demonstrate he is against them. “In fact, it is a friendly fight like WWE fights,” he said.

He said the UPA divided Andhra Pradesh State causing loss to both the States. On the contrary, when Atal Bihari Vajpayee paved way for the creation of Uttarakhand, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, the division was beneficial to all the States. The Centre is engaged in various road and infrastructure projects worth ₹30,000 crore in Telanagna and implementing the Hyderabad metro rail project. “Our dream is to ensure every family has a house and farmers’ income doubles by 2022, when India celebrates its 75 Independence Day,” he said.

Swaminathan Committee

Mentioning the Swaminathan Committee which had made major recommendations submitted to the UPA government on the farm sector, the Prime Minister said, “If these were implemented, India would have been a different country. The report gathered dust for seven years.”

He said over the years, Congress CMs were remote-controlled by Delhi and the TRS focussed on their own welfare. You need a CM who enjoys office as a bold person and a darling of the people.
