The Telangana Government has decided to revise the holiday calendar, giving more priority to festivals that are celebrated more in the new State.
It has increased the number of holidays for Dasara for schools from this year and reduced the number of holidays for Sankranti.
“Our festivals were not given importance in the undivided State. It is time we revisit the holiday schedule and give prominence to our very own,” Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao has said.
Addressing a meeting after releasing a Batukamma festival poster here on Tuesday, he asked the officials to shrink the Sankranti vacation to two days from over 7-10 days earlier.
