The Telangana government has hinted that solar power generation capacity of 1,000 MWis likely to be added within the next 18 months and the State could invite another round of expression of interest for 500 MW capacity.

Speaking at the three-day Electri and Renew Expos here, G Raghuma Reddy, Chairman and Managing Director of Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana, said the government is also pursuing and encouraging roof top solar power generation.

City’s requirement

The State expects to partly meet Hyderabad’s requirement of about 2,000 MW through solar roof top installations.

The expos kicked off here at the Hitex exhibition centre, highlighting new and innovative products and renewable energy solutions.

Organised by the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited and Telangana New Renewable Energy Development Corporation along with Indian Society for Automation & Control, the show seeks to encourage energy saving and promote new generation products.

During the show, speakers mentioned that the electrical industrial scenario in the country is expected to witness sweeping changes by the year 2021.

Consumption growth

The consumption is set to increase significantly with the energy demand expected to grow by about 6 per cent per annum.

Given the demand supply mismatch in today’s consumption requirements, the contribution from the renewable energy sector is projected to go up significantly with both the Centre and State governments seeking to provide impetus.

Sixty exhibitors spanning distribution equipment, cabling and wiring, insulation material, various types of LED lighting and energy saving devices, generators and inverters and solar photo-voltaic systems are under display at the expo.
