Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in New Delhi on Wednesday and discussed issues relating to State, including granting national project status for the mega Kaleshwaram irrigation project.

The meeting was a courtesy call by Rao after being sworn in Chief Minister for the second time, following TRS’ resounding victory in the recent Assembly elections. Issues pertaining to pending projects and under-consideration proposals were discussed.

Positive response

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the Prime Minister responded positively to the CM’s request. During the meeting, apart from the key issue of transfer of Bison/Polo land in the Army fold for the construction of a Secretariat, establishment of an Indian Institute Information Technology (IIIT) in Karimnagar, and an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Hyderabad were taken up.

Requesting the Centre to confer national project status to Kaleshwaram and sanction of special grant for it, the Chief Minister wanted the petitions of Telangana taken up at the Krishna River Water Disputes Resolution Tribunal.

Other key issues

Some of the proposals made during the bifurcation of the State and resolution of bifurcation of Schedule IX and X Institutions under the AP State Reorganization Act, were the issues that came up for discussion.

Various pending issues discussed include, establishment of 21 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas in new districts, sanction of Indian Institute of Science Education and Research in Hyderabad, revival of Cement Corporation of India in Adilabad.

Setting up National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ) in Zaheerabad, with a request for release of funds, development of Kakatiya Mega Textile Park at Warangal and sanction of ₹1,000 crore by the Centre were also taken up.

According to the CMO, expeditious completion of railway projects, Scheduled Caste sub-categorisation, setting up of Tribal University in Warangal district, release of ₹450 crore under the Backward Areas Grant Fund as per the State Reorganization Act, and works under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, were also discussed.
