Taking a dig at Narendra Modi, Congress veteran Ahmed Patel on Tuesday “thanked” the Prime Minister for visiting the State.
“Thank you Prime Minister. After 2 years & visiting 42 countries, you have found some time for Gujarat. Elections must be round the corner,” tweeted Patel, who is Political Secretary to Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
Leader of the Opposition in the Gujarat Assembly, Shankarsinh Vaghela, dubbed the PM’s event as a “lollypop” to woo the people ahead of the impending elections.
“Where are you going to get three million acre feet of water from? Who will pay the ₹1,500 crore annual electricity bill to lift the river water for distribution?” he asked.
Gujarat Congress chief Bharatsinh Solanki described the event as “election-oriented” and questioned as to why it was being held when over 80 per cent of the work on the scheme is yet to be completed.
