Thunderstorms have lined up at many places this morning over the East Coast, including Chennai, and the West Coast, including Mangalore and Goa, as a low-pressure area persisted over Lakshadweep Islands.
A round of thundershowers is due at most of these places in the morning or around noon, according to forecasts available.
Clouds hang over many places in interior Tamil Nadu and South Interior Karnataka to the South of Bengaluru and these included Hosur, Coimbatore, Tiruchirppalli, Madurai (where it is raining) and Tirunelveli.
Similarly, also at many places along the West Coast in Kerala, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode.
India Met Department has forecast heavy rain over Lakshadweep today and variously over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala from tomorrow.
The US Climate Prediction Centre continued to put Chennai and neighbourhood for special focus in is forecast for heavy rain over the next five days ending on November 25.
The tendency for normal to above-normal rain is likely to persist during the week ending December 2 as well, it said.
Meanwhile, a 20-day outlook from the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology has said that normal rain is likely for the South Peninsula (mainly Tamil Nadu and Kerala) during the period valid until December 9.
