The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Ms J. Jayalalithaa, has sanctioned Rs 33.36 crore towards modernisation of over 30 small and large check-posts of revenue department across the state.
The initiative is as part of her government’s efforts to spruce up prevention of smuggling, hoarding and tax evasion.
The funds would be utilised towards creation of new vacancies, purchase of new vehicles and equipment used to record the registration numbers of vehicles crossing the check-posts and inverters and UPS systems, a government release said today.
The modernisation of check-posts would help in handling more number of vehicles in lesser time, reducing their waiting period, timely transportation of goods and “total prevention of tax evasion’’, the release added.
