As part of promoting deep-sea fishing and upgrading related facilities, the Tamil Nadu Government has proposed fishing harbours in four places, with Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa granting administrative sanction for setting up of one such facility at Poompuhar at a cost of Rs 78.50 crore.
Jayalalithaa has allocated an initial sum of Rs 6.67 crore towards this initiative, a State Government release here said.
The Chief Minister has directed setting up fishing harbours at Nagapattinam, Poompuhar, Pazhayar and Mookaiyur to enhance various facilities including storage, the release said.
