One more body was found near the Bardhaman Railway Station in West Bengal, taking the death toll in last Sunday’s violence on board the Guwahati-bound special train carrying Northeast people to six.
Official sources said the body, belonging to a person hailing from Majuli river island in Jorhat district, was recovered yesterday.
Of the six dead, three are from Hailakandi district in South Assam’s Barak valley, one each from Jorhat and Nagaon districts and the other from Thoubal district in Manipur.
Assam IGP (law and order) L R Bishnoi said the situation in the trouble-torn districts of Korkajhar, Chirang and Dhubri was gradually returning to normal as curfew was relaxed today.
“The police and the district administration are trying to build social harmony and our job will be to maintain overall peace”, L R Bishnoi said.
During Eid celebrations yesterday, curfew was relaxed from 9 AM to 3 PM and the prayers passed off peacefully, he said.
