The first trial run of Chennai Metro between Little Mount and AG-DMS on Anna Salai began on Thursday.
The locomotive was taken on trial ride on the downline stretch of around 4 km. After the trial run, round-the-clock work will be undertaken on the upline too, said a press release from CMRL.
Subsequent trial runs with metro trains between Little Mount and AG-DMS will start on completion of system works that are in advanced stage. Integrated trials followed by system integration tests will be conducted during the trials to get the stretch ready for operations, the release said.
Apart from completion works of installing various systems, including tunnel ventilation, signalling, platform screen doors and automatic fare collection, the final lap of finishing work on the underground metro stations at AG-DMS, Teynampet, Nandanam and Saidapet too are under way, the release said.
Once commissioned, a passenger can take the metro rail from AG-DMS to Chennai airport and also to Koyambedu.
Underground construction between AG-DMS and May Day Park is going on, sources said.
