Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh on Saturday said the Trinamool-led Government could not usher in development in West Bengal.
Addressing a rally at Lalgarh (West Midnapore) as part of the Congress's campaign for panchayat elections in the State, Ramesh said “there was a transition in the Government in West Bengal, but the new Government failed to bring in development”.
Criticising Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s comment that “the UPA Government is a minority Government”, Ramesh said “this minority Government sanctioned 13,000 km of concrete road under the Gram Sadak Yojana in the State”.
The Union Minister urged that Congress should be given a chance in the State now. “You have seen the CPI (M) as a Government. You have seen Trinamool Congress so far,” he said adding that this time it should be the Congress’ turn.
