West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo, Mamata Banerjee, on Thursday called for the formation of a “federal front” comprising regional parties.
According to her, Trinamool was also willing to lend support to any non-BJP, non-Congress and non-CPI(M) front.
Putting to rest speculation over a possible alliance with the BJP or Congress, Banerjee made it clear that her party will fight the upcoming Lok Sabha elections alone. Trinamool will contest against the Congress, BJP and CPM in the polls.
“We need a federal front in Delhi, especially for development of the States. And stronger regional parties need to come together for this,” she said while addressing a public rally here in the city.
The alternatives
According to Banerjee, the alternative to a Congress-led Government is neither the BJP or the CPI(M). “Trinamool is the only alternative to Congress, BJP and CPM,” he said.
While BJP was referred to as communal and accused of instigating violence, Banerjee also took a dig at the Congress by accusing it of rioting.
“BJP plays divisive politics. There is no space for a government in Delhi that takes recourse to rioting to retain power,” she said.
