The Delhi Police is closing in on AIADMK supremo Sasikala’s aide TTV Dinakaran, who is accused of attempting to bribe Election Commission of India officials.

Dinakaran is accused of attempting to bribe EC officials for passing a verdict in favour of the Sasikala-led faction of the AIADMK in the tussle over the party symbol.

An FIR has been filed under Section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act that pertains to taking gratification, in order, by corrupt or illegal means, to influence a public servant. Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC has also been invoked.

In a bid to close in on Dinakaran, the Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested Sukesh Chandrasekhar from an upscale South Delhi property. The 27-year-old Chandrasekhar is alleged to have attempted to broker the deal. The police said ₹10 crore was routed to Chandrasekhar’s account by Dinakaran. The deal amount is pegged at ₹50 crore. The police recovered ₹1.30 crore in cash from Chandrasekhar from his Chattarpur residence.

Sources say Chandrashekhar attempted to pass himself off as a politician and an MP. He has had earlier brushes with the law and is under the scanner of the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate. Police are also investigating the role of a Chandini Chowk-based hawala trader and another person accused of attempting to broker a deal with the EC officials.
