The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued an advisory against carrying live media coverage of anti-terrorist operations by security forces at Gurdaspur in Punjab.
In an advisory issued on Monday, the Ministry said it has been brought to their notice that during the ongoing anti-terrorist operations in Gurdaspur, some news and current affairs channels have carried telecast of these operations “without restricting themselves to periodic briefing by an officer designated by the appropriate government."
The Ministry said this is a clear violation of the Cable Television Networks (Amendment) Rules, 2015, and makes them liable for action. “Therefore, it is hereby advised to desist from further violation of the…rules with immediate effect,” the official advisory stated.
Under the Cable TV Networks (Amendment) Rules, 2015, no live coverage programme of any anti-terrorist operation by security forces is allowed and media coverage has to be restricted to periodic briefing by an officer designated by the appropriate government, till such operation concludes.
