In order to ensure development in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress has to be removed from power, Congress Vice-President, Rahul Gandhi, said here in the city today.
His comments came in the backdrop of West Bengal heading for the polls in 2016, and with his party on the downslide following large defections across rank and file mostly to the Trinamool.
Gandhi was in the city to address a worker’s meet and raise awareness about the Land Ordinance Bill.
“The Left Front put brakes on development in Bengal. And after the Trinamool came to power, people thought things would be different. But unfortunately that was not the case. The Trinamool has done the same now,” he said, while addressing the party workers.
“Unseat the Trinamool and bring the Congress to power; that is the only way to bring development in Bengal,” he added.
Critical of West Bengal Chief Minister, Rahul Gandhi said that Mamata was oblivious to the demands and needs of not just the people of the State, but also that of her party.
Modi – Mamata bonhomie
According to him, Banerjee had pulled out of being a part of the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s entourage to Bangladesh. However, she seems to have no problem going there with Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
“When the UPA was in power she wanted to go to Bangladesh alone. But when Modi came to power she changed her stand. She now seems to have no problem in going with him to Bangladesh,” he said.
