The national capital is likely to get a facelift as the Urban Development Ministry has prepared an action plan for the city's beautification. This will involve focus on heritage buildings, more greenery for pedestrian pathways, plantation drives outside metro stations, among others.

Union Urban Development Secretary, Sudhir Krishna, on Monday, said agencies like New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and Delhi Development Authority (DDA) operating in the national capital will get involved in this drive to make the national capital a world class city. The action plan includes improvement and beautification of roads, parks, roundabouts, pedestrian pathways.

With monsoon approaching, civic agencies have started working on an action plan on issues ranging from desilting of drains to checking for mosquito breeding, he added. Plantation drive will be encouraged at entry and exit points at metro stations.

Stakeholders have been asked to prepare short-medium and long term programmes for this, Krishna said.

The Secretary on Monday chaired a high level meeting of various civic officials to discuss the steps taken by the Ministry.

In addition to this, the Ministry is also emphasising on the need to construct more public toilets across the city including use of recycle waste in a big way.
