Kerala warrants immediate measures to increase its cattle wealth amid a steep decline that is threatening to nullify the importance of cattle-feed, the State Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister, K Raju, said.
Employees of Kerala Feeds Ltd (KFL), too, should join an initiative that aims to strengthen the state’s cattle population, he said, after inaugurating a bypass protein plant at the PSU’s headquarters at Kallettumkara near Irinjalakuda in Thrissur.
KFL also merits greater publicity for its cattle feed, which is the best available product of its kind in the state. KFL is not primarily profit-driven. It works for the benefit of cattle farmers, the Minister noted.
KFL Managing Director, B. Sreekumar, presented the report at the function. The PSU, as part of a diversification plan, opened a bypass protein plant that uses advanced technology to guarantee better-quality cattle feed. The new facility has been completed with the help of the National Dairy Development Board.
The cattle feed manufactured ensures higher protein retention by the animal. That would lead to increased production and quality of milk.
