US team visits Hyderabad Metro sites

A delegation of the US Department of Transportation visited Hyderabad metro rail project sites and discussed areas of mutual interest with Andhra Pradesh.

Assistant Secretary Susan Kurland of the US Department of Transportation met Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary Minnie Mathew and other senior officers of the State Government.

They discussed areas of interest, including airport and seaport development, road safety and best practices in public-private partnership (PPP) projects.

The delegation included Julie Abraham, Executive Director, International Transportation and Trade, Jason Hill, Transport Specialist, Katherine Dhanani, U.S. Consul General Hyderabad, and others.

The State Principal Secretary (Transport), Lakshmi Parthasarathi, the Managing Director Hyderabad Metro Rail, N.V.S. Reddy, the Secretary (Infrastructure and Investments), Sunil Sharma, and other senior officers participated in the discussions.

The delegation toured metro rail work sites in Uppal, viewing pillar construction, launching of girder segments, depot works and pre-casting works.

N. V. S. Reddy explained the project details and the potential the project has in transforming Hyderabad into a global metropolis.

He discussed the challenges of building infrastructure projects in urban areas and the innovative methods used in Hyderabad in the project taken up on in the PPP mode.
