Vijayawada Railway division has earned Rs 3,714 crore in 2014-15 financial year from April to January, registering a 35 per cent growth against Rs 2,750 crore in the same period last year, a senior official said.
In the same period, a total of 31.22 million tonne was transported, up 22.5 per cent as compared to 25.49 million tonne in the corresponding period a year ago, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Vijayawada division, NSR Prasad, told PTI yesterday.
He said that the loading target of 34.8 million tonne can be definitely achieved this month end and by March end it can meet 38 million tonne target.
Prasad said both Kakinada and Krishnapatnam ports are two major contributors for the high earnings, adding that coal and fertiliser transportation is the major source of revenue for the division.
