Ports and industries hit hard by cyclone Hudhud are struggling to return to normal as their efforts are being hampered by the lack of power and a breakdown of telecom systems. Public sector Hindustan Shipyard Ltd (HSL) suffered considerable damage on Sunday as the cyclone ravaged the city. The employees’ residential colony near the shipyard also took a hit. HPCL’s Visakha refinery also stopped production and cargo handling at both Visakhapatnam and Gangavaram ports for past two days. NTPC’s Simhadri thermal power plant, with 2,000-MW capacity, also stopped power generation from Sunday. A senior official said that efforts were on to revive at least one unit in a day or two.
