India Met Department (IMD) has advised fishermen not to venture into the seas around Andaman & Nicobar Islands in first signals that stormy weather is developing over the Bay of Bengal.
The IMD is expecting a resident low-pressure area over Central Bay of Bengal to become ‘more marked’ before it intensifies to become a monsoon depression.
It has issued an alert saying heavy rain may lash Tami Nadu, Puducherry, South Interior Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep during the course of the rest of today.
A huge cloud of bank has been located straddled along the Tamil Nadu coast, and building itself around the prevailing ‘low’ in the adjoining Bay of Bengal.
Now that a peer weather system in the form of erstwhile typhoon Khanun over South China Sea that shared flows and moisture has weakened, the ‘low’ in Bay would become the predominant weather feature off the country’s shores.
And it is forecast to imprint its signature progressively on the local weather as is clear from the forecast of heavy rain over the South Peninsula.
Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning have been warned of at isolated places over Telangana, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Interior Karnataka today.
The heavy rain belt would start migrating more to the North of the coast tomorrow covering Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha even as it rains heavy over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala.
The warning for fishermen would be in the same manner be extended to North Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts in line with the expected track of the depression even as it intensifies along the way.
