Splash, a three-day ‘monsoon tourism carnival’ that aims to sell Wayanad as a major monsoon tourism destination in the country, will begin at Kalpetta on Saturday.

The Wayanad Tourism Organisation, who organises the carnival, feels that since heavy rains have been forecast, the visitors would be able to experience firsthand the charms of rain-soaked Wayanadan mountains.

Splash, an innovative event to showcase Wayanad, which is a popular tourist destination, is into its fifth edition this year.

K.R. Vancheeswaran, secretary general of WTO, told

Business Line that the event would have fun, field trips, adventure sports and B2B meetings.

He said nearly 300 buyers (travel industry professionals, organisations and agents) and 80 sellers (owners of resorts, homestatys and hotels) would attend the B2B meetings. The buyers, who come from all over India, will visit most of the properties (resorts etc) as well as the destinations.

Activities

In order to provide the outdoor experience of Wayanad, there would be several activities: mud football, rafting, river-crossing, trekking in the rain, swimming and walking through tea, coffee and spice gardens. There would also be an off-roading competition.

“The main objective of Splash is to showcase Wayanad as a great all-season single destination and also highlight the unique charms of mountain district in monsoon,” Vancheeswaran said.

Being an intersection of Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Wayanad has of late been attracting increasing number of tourists from all the three States. Tourism Minister Anil Kumar, top tourism officials and travel writers will attend the opening ceremony at Kalpetta.
