The World Bank is likely to extend a Rs 2,500-crore credit line to Andhra Pradesh for enhancing the efficiency in the power sector, including bringing down transmission and distribution losses.
As the State moves towards bringing down the T&D losses to single digit, and sets up Green energy corridor, the new credit line assumes importance for the State, according to the Energy Conservation Cell.
The credit line is aimed at taking up enhancement of rural supply network including feeder segregation, setting up of solar pumpsets, smart metering and strengthening the distribution network, including investments in smart city infrastructure for the new capital city.
The Central Government and German lending agency KFW have agreed to fund the green Energy Corridor in the planned with an outlay of Rs 1,289 crore. Of this, the Centre has agreed to grant Rs 515 crore for evacuation of wind and solar power through the green energy corridor.
Ajay Jain, State Energy Secretary, who participated in the world energy efficiency forum held in Washington DC discussed with World Bank team with regard to investments in power sector and ways to expedite the projects.
The Government has tied up funds to set up 4,000 solar pumpsets in the State during the year.
A Chandra Sekhara Reddy, CEO of Energy Conservation Cell, has been assigned to represent Andhra Pradesh at the global event on “Energy Efficiency” at Paris during June 8-12.
