Venkaiah Naidu responds to Cong charge that Modi is a ‘tourist PM’

Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday hit out at the Congress for dubbing Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “tourist Prime Minister”, and asked if they would rather have him be a “frog in the well”.

“Does it mean he should remain at one place? (Is he) supposed to be like a frog in the well? A frog in a well only makes noise sitting inside,” he said.

Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge had dubbed Modi “a tourist Prime Minister” on Wednesday, and attacked him saying he had time to make speeches in foreign countries, but not to attend Parliament.

Alleging that the country was beset with many problems like poor economic growth, a weak rupee and fiscal deficit when the UPA handed over government to the NDA last year, Naidu said it become competitive.

The Minister said the Modi government was rectifying the situation, and things were looking up now with growth rate rising from 4.6 per cent to 7.3 per cent, a year after coming to power.
