The YSR Congress Party has said that it will not allow discussion on the bifurcation Bill.
“Allowing it would tantamount to agreeing for the division of the State and we will not allow that to happen. We will rather press for a resolution against the division of the State in the Assembly,” YSRCP President Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy said.
“Generally, the Assembly has to pass a resolution seeking the division of the State, which is sent to the Centre. A draft Bill will then be prepared on the basis of the resolution which has to be taken up for discussion by the State Assembly,” a party press release, quoting the YSRCP President, said.
Earlier in the day, a YSRCP delegation submitted affidavits to President Pranab Mukherjee, pledging full support for keeping the State united. The President is camping in the City for the last few days as part of his winter sojourn to the South.
The party also asked legislators belonging to other political parties to make similar appeals to the President. kurmanath.kanchi@thehindu.co.in
