Public sector NBCC (India) Ltd on Monday proposed to redevelop seven colonies in the capital with increased tree cover, zero waste discharge, and better parking facilities. The redevelopment, it said, would help increase green cover in these residential localities four-fold – from the current 14 per cent to 55 per cent.

“Our vision is to develop Delhi in a planned and sustainable manner,” said Anoop Kumar Mittal, NBCC CMD, adding that the firm would also provide sewage treatment services in residential colonies in the neighbourhood as part of the project.

Addressing a press conference, Mittal admitted that trees were being cut to develop these colonies. “Permissions have been obtained from the Delhi government and other authorities for cutting about 3,748 trees for redeveloping Nauroji Nagar and Netaji Nagar,” Mittal said, adding that the firm will plant 10,000 trees in the same localities.

NBCC is a Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). “Plans are being finalised for other colonies. Our redevelopment model is on display at New Moti Bagh where green coverage is about 65 per cent now, as against the barren land we acquired,” he added.
