In a setback for Nestle India, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on Wednesday clarified that ‘no clean chit’ has been given to Maggi Noodles.

On Tuesday, there were reports that Maggi samples from Goa tested by Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore, were found to be in compliance with the safety standards. However, the FSSAI said these tests had no bearing on its recall order of June 5. Besides, the samples were taken from Nestle’s Bicholim’s factory, which mainly caters to the export market.

The FSSAI said it had asked Nestle India to share the details of the findings of the UK and Singapore food safety authorities declaring Maggi safe. “Nestle has not shared the details of the said test reports of the UK and Singapore regulators with the FSSAI,” it said.

As for the Goa tests, the FSSAI said the Food Safety Department of Goa had first drawn five samples of Maggi Noodles and sent its test reports to FSSAI on June 1, after having tested them at Food & Drugs Laboratory of Goa. But lab analysts had wrongly taken the permissible lead limit as 10 ppm for the tastemaker against the actual maximum permissible level of 2.5 ppm.
