Kerala-based start-up to provide detailed assessment and cost estimate to patients

Patients who find themselves adrift navigating from one website to another to find the right hospital could look to a Kerala-based healthcare start-up for help.

TreatGo is unlike its peers which help with healthcare discovery and appointments, the firm claims

Right choices

TreatGo helps identify the perfect place for treatment, says Yaser Hameed, co-founder and CEO. This is aimed at giving patients “the power of choice to go for the right treatment,” he told

BusinessLine .

“We want to be a patient’s knowledgeable partner in choosing a hospital or a doctor. In addition, we want to give patients access to affordable, unbiased second opinions through our expert panel of doctors.”

The start-up’s long-term orientation originates from the mindset of a patient who has just learnt that he requires a surgery, said Hameed.

The likely immediate questions will be about the treatment option which avoids an invasive procedure, the process to get a detailed assessment, treatment plan and cost estimate from another hospital since one lives far away or in another country.

Where does one get an unbiased second opinion? What are the best options available considering one’s travel times and budget? How does one plan treatment with them online and make reservations? The app tries to answer these question?

All patient leads are directly sent to the hospitals they choose. The start-up is building a technology that plays the role of ‘an inside man in the hospital’ for patients, Hameed said.

But it is not a ‘pure-play second opinion’ platform either. It has a panel of specialist doctors to help patients go for the right treatment and help them choose the best doctor or hospitals according to their needs, he added.

Once a patient has submitted details of his condition and request an opinion, one of the doctors takes up the case and provides him an assessment and options via email.

TreatGo’s medical team will also help the patient choose the right hospital, including the likely budget. This will enable the patients to make informed decisions, Hameed said.

“As of now, we have six doctors specialising in general medicine, cardiology, orthopaedics, neurology, nephrology and gastroenterology. We are looking to add more.”

The start-up is currently angel-funded.

“We are looking for investors. We are incubating at the Kerala Startup Mission and are actively looking to raise funds from domestic and international funds.”
