After a brief lull, intermittent drizzle to forceful rain has returned to haunt the flood-wary Chennai, which recorded 3 cm of rains during the 24 hours ending this (Saturday) morning.
Overcast conditions and a light drizzle are variously being reported from parts of the city this morning as menacing clouds have made their appearance over the adjoining seas.
Rain outlook
India Met Department has extended the rainy day outlook for the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coast to Monday, after which the precipitation trends to shift to the West Coast over Kerala and Lakshadweep.
But the US Climate Prediction Centre is of the view that on-and-off rain or thundershowers will keep coming to Chennai and neighbourhood right until mid-December (for another week to 10 days).
It has continued to warn the entire coast of Tamil Nadu-Puducherry, including Chennai and neighbourhood in the North to extreme South Peninsula (Kanya Kumari), of moderate to excess rain for as long.
'Low' persists
Meanwhile, the causative low-pressure is staying anchored over South-West Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lanka (which too is forecast to witness heavy to very rain) this morning.
It has put itself on a painfully slow grind through the Gulf of Mannar and around the Sri Lankan islands on a course towards the Lakshadweep Sea (South-East Arabian Sea), which is what would bring the rain to the West Coast and Lakshadweep from early next week.
The rain or thundershowers are expected to reach Coastal Karnataka and even parts of the Konkan-Goa stretch, apart from parts of the adjoining interior.
