Paan Singh Tomar bags national award for best feature film

38 films in 14 languages grab awards for 2012

Tigmanshu Dhulia directed Paan Singh Tomar , a biopic on the athlete-turned-dacoit, has won the best feature film award at the 60th National Film Awards for 2012. Irrfan Khan, who played the protagonist, shared the best actor award for the film with actor Vikram Gokhale, who starred in the Marathi film Anumati .

The national award jury included Basu Chatterjee, Aruna Raje and Swapan Mullick.

In a statement, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry said that about 38 films from across 14 languages have been selected for the awards.

Hindi flick

Vicky Donor , which talked about the topic of sperm donation and infertility, shared the best popular film award with
Ustad Hotel (Malayalam). Annu Kapoor, who acted in
Vicky Donor , also bagged the best supporting actor award.

The Indira Gandhi award for the best debut film was bagged by Chittagong (Hindi) and 101 Chodiyangal (Malayalam).

The best director award was conferred on Shivaji Lotan Patil for the film Dhag (Marathi), the film also got Usha Jadhav the best actress award.

Actors Dolly Ahluwalia and Kalpana shared the best supporting actress awards for Vicky Donor and ThanichallaNjan (Malyalam).

The award for the best male playback singer has been conferred on Shankar Mahadevan for the song Bolo Na from the film Chittagong .

The award for the best female playback singer has been given to Samhita for the song Palakein Naa Moondon from the film Aarti Anklekartikekar (Marathi).

The award for the best screenplay writer (original) was given to Sujoy Ghosh for the Hindi thriller Kahaani . The award for the best screenplay writer (adapted) was bagged by Bhavesh Mandalia and Umesh Shukla for the film Oh My God .

The award for the best dialogue was given to Anjali Menon for the film Ustad Hotel (Malayalam). Ad man Prasoon Joshi got the best lyrics award for the song Bolo Na from the film Chittagong .

A special jury award was conferred on Bengali director Rituparno Ghosh and Hindi actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui for the films Chitrangada (Bengali), Kahaani, Gangs of Wasseypur, Dekh Indian Circus and Talaash (all Hindi). The award for the best choreography was conferred on Pandit Birju Maharaj for the film Vishwaroopam (Tamil).
