In the aftermath of the dastardly terrorist attacks at the Pathankot Air Force base, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif phoned his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi assuring him of “prompt and decisive” action against the perpetrators.
“Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif assured Prime Minister Modi that his government would take prompt and decisive action against the terrorists,” stated a press release issued by the PMO.
It also said PM Modi “strongly emphasized” on the need for Pakistan to take “firm and immediate action” against the organizations and individuals responsible for and linked to the Pathankot terrorist attack.
“Specific and actionable information in this regard has been provided to Pakistan,” it added.
Pakistan’s foreign ministry has already stated their government is working on the leads provided by India on the Pathankot Attacks.
India, Pakistan NSAs discuss Pathankot incident
Even as the Government remained tight-lipped on whether to go ahead with the Foreign Secretary-level talks, both the National Security Advisers (NSAs) of India and Pakistan went into a huddle to ascertain the road ahead in the aftermath of the terrorist attack on Pathankot air force base.
According to sources, both the NSAs – Ajit Doval and Naseer Khan Janjua – remained “in touch” with each other and discussed the Pathankot incident in detail in an effort to find a way out to continue the dialogue process.
It is now assumed that both NSAs might also meet at the same time when the foreign secretary talks will be held.
On the other hand, in a late Monday night press statement, Pakistan Foreign Ministry stated that it is “working on the leads provided by India” to counter and eradicate terrorism.
Terming the Pathankot incident as “unfortunate” the Pakistan Government said: “Living in the same region and with a common history, the two countries should remain committed to a sustained dialogue process. The challenge of terrorism calls for strengthening our resolve to a cooperative approach.”
According to the Pakistan, the Foreign Secretary talks are scheduled to take place on January 14-15 in Islamabad. However, there has been no official announcement of the schedule by the Government here.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is believed to be making a statement on the official position once the combing and sanitising operations at the Pathankot air base is completely over.
Meanwhile, after killing six terrorist, operations are still on at the air base.
According to Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, who had visited the base today along with the heads of army and air force, stated that the combing operations will continue till Wednesday and initial investigations showed “some gaps” in security.
