Manohar Parrikar tendered his resignation as Defence Minister on Sunday as he bid for the post of Chief Minister in Goa.
With his resignation, South Block was left staring at a “massive unfinished agenda” even as the government is expected to name a successor soon, sources told BusinessLine .
That Parrikar would resign was became evident on Saturday itself as it became clear that Goa was staring at a hung assembly.
To salvage the situation in the State and pave the way for the BJP, Parrikar emerged the last resort choice.
However, his exit from South Block has put a big question mark over multi-billion dollar defence deals that are in the pipeline.
For instance, the Indian Air Force’s single-engine jet fighter deal, worth nearly $12 billion, now faces an uncertain future.
Parrikar was appointed Defence Minister in November 2014, when he was the Chief Minister of Goa.
