Units in the Jawahar Pharma City at Parawada in Visakhapatnam district are likey to get power and water by Sunday evening or at least Monday morning, and "efforts are being made on a war-footing to get the units going again after cyclone Hudhud brought everything to a standstill since Sunday", according to P.P Lal Krishna, Head (Operations), Ramky Pharma City (India) Ltd, the developer.
He said here on Saturday that at present more than 50 units were in operation in the pharma city, including major ones such as Eisai Pharma, Hospira and Mylan, and all the units had to suspend operations from Sunday.
"The two critical inputs - power and water - are missing since Sunday and all Government agencies and the private industry as well are making hectic efforts to restore normalcy. Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Ltd (APEPDCL) is on the job and we are also providng men and material to expedite it,'' he said.
He said Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Ltd (APIIC) was supplying water (10 million litres a day) to the units normally and "for the past two days, we have got 2.9 million litres or so through gravitational flow. There is no power for pumping more. We are supplying the water to the units by tankers for emergency purposes. Hopefully, we will get the full quantum by Monday or so."
Power supply
APIIC Chairman P. Krishnaiah said here on Saturday that with restoration of power supply to domestic sector going on on a war-footing, "the focus is now being given to industrial power supply''.
He said that in view of the power shortage there had been no water supply to industries and "we have supplied a little water to the pharma units using gravity. It was to enable the units to get some water for clearing up activity. However, the actual work will begin in the process industries only after power and water are supplied on a normal scale."
