Philips Lighting plans to launch more than 20 experience centres across the country this year to cash in on the strong demand for smart lighting products.
The company has seen sales of smart lights grow three times in the consumer segment in the last one year and seeks to increase the sales five times this year. The share of smart lighting products account for high single digit in total sales and the company intends to grow the share to a strong double-digit in the near term.
Retail push
The first Philips Smart Light Hub experience centre was launched in Chennai on Monday. The 2,400 sq ft centre showcases more than 600 products and concepts including Hue — the smart web-enabled LED lighting system.
“These experience centres are going to help us reach more customers across categories,” Sumit Padmakar Joshi, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, Philips Lighting India, told
The smart light hub centre will replicate actual settings of a living room, bedroom and a dining room to provide a first-hand experience of different lighting concepts. Joshi said the inflection point of smart lighting in the home segment had arrived in India. “ There is voice assistance, third-party apps and product formats to connect with people. All of these are coming together to spur the growth of smart lighting,” he added.
Philips Lighting plans to convert its existing 70 light lounges in the country into smart light hub centres gradually.
Joshi also pointed out that the professional lighting business was growing faster than the consumer segment in the country, driven by a strong growth in LED across segments, on the back of large orders from various organisations.
