The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board’s Appellate Authority on Wednesday adjourned to july 10 an appeal by Vedanta's Sterlite Copper against the Board’s rejection of Consent to Operate (CTO) for the copper smelter plant at Thoothukudi.
The adjournment follows the State government’s decision last week asking the Board to close the plant permanently after 15 people were killed in an anti-Sterlite protest that turned violent.
Authority’s chairman, Retd Justice T Suthanthiram, said since a GO has been passed, it is not appropriate to hear the appeal now.
However, Sterlite representatives wanted the Authority to hear the petition as the GO was based on CTO rejection order.
