A disruption in the power supply to both the 220 MW units at the Madras Atomic Power Station (MAPS) at Kalpakkam, some 70 km from here, has affected the power production at the plant.
“The 230kv switchyard tripped on August 19 at 1.15 am and led to power supply failure. So, the reactors shutdown automatically and the power production has stopped,” MAPS Station Director K Ramamurthy said.
MAPS produces eight million units of electricity a day, he said.
Asked when the problem would be sorted out, he said, “We are working on it and hopefully operations should resume in two-three days, maybe by August 22 or 23.”
