Prohibitory orders in Thiruvananthapuram have been extended for three more days till Wednesday (August 2) in view of the situation arising out of murder of an RSS karyavah here last night.
These orders were clamped initially from Friday following a spate of attacks involving the CPI(M) and BJP-RSS cadres at different localities and were to expire on Monday.
The dawn-to-dusk hartal called by the BJP to protest the killing is mostly total in the State with stray incidents of violence being reported from outside of the state capital.
The police have arrested six persons, thought to be CPI(M) activists, in connection with the murder of 34-year-old Rajesh, the RSS karyavah.
He was declared dead on the operation table at a private hospital while undergoing emergency surgical procedures for more than 40 grievous wounds inflicted by an armed 20-member gang.
The police is also looking into reports that the killing was ant act of provocation signalling the tipping point of a series of skirmishes between two sections in a neighbourhood colony.
But the incident quickly assumed party colours after the identities of the perpetrators were confirmed, highlighted further by the ongoing rivalry and recent attacks on each others' houses and property.
The Deputy Director of the Police Information Centre at the State Police HQ here said that every effort is being taken to nab at the earliest all culprits involved in the murder of the RSS activist.
The police have been instructed to strictly deal with any attempt at violence and adequate force has been deployed at all sensitive areas.
The State Police Chief has asked appealed to the social media to restrain from spreading rumours and provocative messages, which would attract legal action.
