The aftermath of the rains and extensive flooding has hit industrial activity in Chennai. Major manufacturing units have suspended operations with units either flooded or unable to operate due to inadequate workforce.
Eicher Motors has informed the BSE that production has been disrupted at its Royal Enfield motorcycle units in Thiruvottriyur and Oragadam. It has shut down both the plants and its offices in the city from December 1.
The unprecedented rainfall in Chennai has impacted logistics and supply-chain resulting in disruption of production. Due to the rains in November, production loss was about 4,000 motorcycles.
Apollo Tyres has informed the exchange that its factory at Oragadam, near Chennai, was flooded and production disrupted till December 2 due to heavy rains in Chennai. The production loss due to this natural calamity was 450 tonnes but is adequately covered under the insurance policy of the company.
Supreme Petrochem Ltd has informed the BSE that the operations of the company's EPS plant at Chennai have been disrupted due to heavy rains and floods. The expected downtime can be assessed only after normalcy returns.
The plant is adequately insured. It does not anticipate material loss of revenue as customers can be serviced from the company's EPS plant at Maharashtra.
