Home Minister Rajnath Singh today said that he will make a statement in Parliament on Monday or Tuesday on the issue of Dawood Ibrahim against the backdrop of controversy following his junior minister’s contention that the whereabouts of the underworld don are not known.
Talking to reporters here after a meeting of party workers, Singh said he would make a statement on the issue in Parliament as it is in session.
In a written reply in Lok Sabha on May 5, the Minister of State for Home, Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary, had said that the whereabouts of Dawood were not known to the government and once he was located, his extradition process would be initiated.
“The subject (Dawood) has not been located so far. Extradition process with regard to Dawood Ibrahim would be initiated once the subject is located,” he had said.
This has generated a lot of controversy with the Opposition attacking the government and accusing it of embarrassing the country by changing position on the issue.
