Ranjit Sinha, the 1974 batch IPS officer from Bihar cadre, has taken charge as the new Director of The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Sinha succeeded Amar Pratap Singh, who handled high-profile scams such as 2G, CWG and coal allocation among others.
Sinha on his first interaction with media said that there are few challenges before the CBI such as shortage of manpower need to provide modern technology and facilities; up gradation of forensic laboratories; and, need to reduce delays in execution of Letters Rogatory.
“After receiving a detailed briefing from my team of officers, I will get down to the business of attempting to address these concerns,” the new Director added.
When asked about political controversies post his appointment, Sinha said he is not aware of any controversy. “I think the government has taken a decision and because of that decision I am here. I don’t think there was any resentment among IPS officers. I do not know who filed a petition or complaint against me. It is the prerogative of the government.”
