A 11-floor, unfinished residential tower, near Porur, a southern suburb of Chennai, which is deemed to be unsafe, will be demolished on Wednesday through controlled explosions, according to a State government press release.
The project at Moulivakkam was a scene of tragedy in June 2014, when one of the two towers under constructionby a Chennai-based developer, came crashing down killing over 60 construction workers.
The second tower will be demolished using explosives on November 2 in line with the orders of the Supreme Court, the release said.
A safe zone of 100-metre radius around the demolition site has been identified and safety precautions will be taken. The people will be informed and local residents can stay temporarily at SKS Jai Maruti Mahal, at Madanandapuram, the release said.
