The National Games Secretariat is in the process of preparing a post-games legacy plan for reuse and sale of assets created for the forthcoming 35th National Games in Kerala.

Tenders have been invited for 365 housing units coming up at the Games Village here, built using polyurethane foam (PUF)-based prefab material and associated fittings and fixtures.

365 units

Government departments, sports councils, hostels, clubs, and promoting institutions can submit bids. Projects approved by the Executive Committee of the National Games Secretariat can also take part in the bidding process.

The prefab housing units in the village are of 678 sq feet in area. Beneficiaries would need to make available a level ground of approximately 14m x 11m for installing them. Terraces of existing buildings can also host them, a Secretariat official said.

Reuse of prefabs

Applications for the reuse of the prefab housing units have already started coming in. They are being scrutinised by the Secretariat.

A conventional concrete building of 700 sq ft size will on current costs require investment of up to ₹10 lakh. But beneficiaries here will get prefab units at significantly reduced rates, the spokesman said.

The beneficiary may have to pay ₹1.50 lakh per unit, of which ₹1 lakh is tentatively the cost of laying the foundation, provision for electricity, water supply and sewage disposal. Local MLAs can suggest beneficiaries after assessing sports-related needs of local bodies.

If the request meets specific criteria and ₹1 lakh is remitted before February 28, 2015, the allotment will be made free of cost to these local bodies.

Prefab building for non-sporting use by government departments and institutions will be allocated after 50 per cent of the material cost is collected.

For non-government sports promotion institutions, the down payment will be 60 per cent. A purely private user will need to part with 75 per cent of the material cost.

But these Institutions/organisations desirous of confirming allotments should remit the amount before November 30.
