The West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo, Mamata Banerjee on Thursday attributed the death of Sarabjit Singh to “bad handling”.

Expressing shock at the news of Sarabjit’s death, Banerjee in a Facebook post said: “I am extremely shocked to learn that Sarabjit Singh is no more. This is a result of bad handling of the case.”

Sarabjit was on death row in Pakistan after being convicted in terrorist strikes in Punjab (in Pakistan). On April 26, he was attacked by fellow prisioners and was since then admitted at a Lahore hospital. He died on Thursday.

”I have no words to express my anguish. I can only say sorry for the state of affairs that perpetrated this situation,” Banerjee added.

According to Banerjee, her deepest condolences lie with the bereaved family. “I stand by them at this hour of grief,” she said.
