The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned Trinamool Congress general secretary and former Railway Minister Mukul Roy for questioning in connection with the Saradha scam.
Confirming that news, Roy – who is currently in Delhi – said on Monday that he would appear before the central investigating agency on his return to the city.
“I have never been involved in any illegal activity; either in person or on behalf of the party. I have been informed that they have called me. But I am here now (in Delhi).
Once I return to Kolkata, I will meet them (the CBI),” he told a private news channel. Roy is also a Rajya Sabha MP. Four Trinamool leaders – including Rajya Sabha members Kunal Ghosh and Srinjoy Bose; State Transport Minister Madan Mitra; and senior party leader Rajat Majumdar – have been arrested in connection with the scam.
While Ghosh was nabbed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the State police; the CBI had rounded up the others.
The CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) have also questioned many Trinamool MPs and senior party functionaries as part of the probe.
The Saradha Group involved in illegal money collection schemes went bust in April 2013, duping thousands of investigators across West Bengal and neighbouring States.
