Being reinducted into the ruling AIADMK party on Tuesday, and anointed Deputy General Secretary on Wednesday is fast growth indeed for TTV Dinakaran, nephew of party General Secretary VK Sasikala.
Dinakaran’s appointment came just hours before she surrendered to the Special Court in Bengaluru on Wednesday. The Supreme Court had on Tuesday upheld her conviction and that of her relatives J Elavarasi and VN Sudhakaran in the disproportionate assets case, and sentenced them to four years’ imprisonment.
A communication from the AIADMK headquarters dated February 14 said TTV Dinakaran and S Venkatesh had been reinducted into the party after tendering apologies “in writing and in person” for their earlier actions. Both were sacked in 2011 by the late J Jayalalithaa, former General Secretary of the AIADMK, for interfering in government administration.
Dinakaran is a former AIADMK parliamentarian and S Venkatesh was formerly the Secretary of the Youth Wing.
Dinakaran and Venkatesh were among 12 of Sasikala’s family, including herself, who were expelled from the party for interfering with government matters in 2011. Sasikala was readmitted in March 2012 after she apologised and gave an undertaking that she would snap ties with those who betrayed Jayalalithaa’s interests.
