State Bank of Travancore (SBT) has warned customers against sharing their PIN (personal identification number) and card/account details with anyone.

The bank never asks the customer to share with it ATM debit card PIN and other account details, a spokesman said here.

Multiple debits
The alert comes in the context of complaints about fraudsters calling customers over mobile/landline phones and asking them for PIN, card number and account number details, promising to renew a card which is due for expiry.

Immediately after such conversation, the customers realise that their account are debited with multiple transactions from various e-commerce sites.

The spokesman clarified that SBT provides SMS alerts to all customers who have registered their mobile numbers with the bank for transactions done by them in their accounts.

There are facilities for customers to block their cards in case of loss or theft. They can also request for a fresh PIN.

After the validity period of the card, the bank issues fresh card to the customer and never renews the same card for further period.
