The Supreme Court (SC) today asked the Centre to respond to a plea seeking to examine the “two finger test” conducted on rape complainants on the ground that it was “ex-facie” against the dignity of the victims.
A Bench comprising justices K S Radhakrishnan and Dipak Misra issued notices to the Centre, Delhi Government and the National Commission for Women on the petition seeking framing of elaborate guidelines for the manner in which immediate medico legal assistance is to be provided to rape victims.
The response has also been sought from the Centre and the Police Department on the plea that the informants to such incidents should not be harassed, confined or interrogated unless their name is provided by the victim.
The prayer was made in a PIL filed by a law student who has raised the question of safety of women and girls.
