Imagine if trucks don’t ply on the roads. The economy will come to a grinding halt. That’s the power of the trucking industry. Daily, nearly 60 lakh trucks criss-cross the country carrying over 60 per cent of India’s cargo. But today, all is not well in the sector which is besieged with multiple challenges.

Considering the trucking industry’s importance, BusinessLine in association with Indian Oil Corporation and YES Bank is conducting a series of events across the country to bring various stakeholders, including truck owners, users and financiers together to discuss issues concerning the industry.

The first in the series — Lead The Road — was held on June 1 at Namakkal, the hub of truck industry in South India, with over 150 representatives from the truck industry, various industry associations and from IOC and YES Bank participating in the event.

The second edition will be held at Kochi on July 6. Presentations apart, the event will see a panel discussion on the topic “The Road Ahead,” which will deal with various issues involving the truck industry. The speakers in discussion are: Tomy Thomas, Secretary, Cochin Container Carrier Owners Welfare Association; PP Chacko, President, All Kerala Tanker Lorry Owners Association; VM Hari Kumar, DGM (Retail Sales), Kerala State Office, IOC and Nipul Jain, National Head, Commercial Retail Lending & Micro Enterprise Banking, YES Bank.
