Switching shifts with colleagues by an ethnic Indian couple has resulted in one surviving and another dying.
Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 steward ethnic Indian Sanjid Singh Sandhu’s wife, who is also an air stewardess with the airline, was supposed to have been on board the ill-fated MH370 which went missing on March 8.
But her life was spared when she switched her shift with a colleague.
The Beijing-bound flight MH370 disappeared with 239 people, including five Indians on board, after taking off from Kuala Lumpur on March 8. The plane has still not been found.
Her 41-year-old husband Sanjid was, however, not so lucky.
He was supposed to have been off but instead swapped his shift with another steward.
Sanjid had switched his shift with a colleague on the ill-fated Flight MH17 from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur which was shot down over Eastern Ukraine yesterday.
All 298 people on board were killed in the crash.
According to his distraught father Jijar Singh, Sanjid’s mother had planned to cook her son’s favourite dishes upon his arrival in Penang, Malaysia.
“My son spoke to me over the phone just before his flight. I didn’t know that would be my last conversation with him. What has happened has happened,” Jijar, with tears flowing, told reporters at his house in Penang.
The septuagenarian couple was informed about the MH17 crash by their daughter who called from Italy to inform her parents about the tragedy, the paper said.
