If figurines of super heroes are a craze among movie fans, can the superstar be any different?
With the Rajinikanth-starrer Kabali set to release on July 22 across the world, figurines of Rajnikanth as Kabali will be one more memorablia associated with it..
The collectible designed and made by Singapore-based Carbon Copy Collectibles will be sold in India by V Creations, the movie’s producers.
Ganesh Lingam, one of the founders of Carbon Copy, said: “Earlier, we had only designed figures of superstar as Baasha and Kamal Hassan as Thevar Magan . “When Kalaipuli Thanu saw Manick Baasha’s miniature statue, he was impressed and approached us to do the same for Kabali . That is how our journey began.”
Carbon Copy Collectibles became V Creations’ official partner to produce and market Kabali figurines for the Indian audience and abroad. Lingam said, “While we have the right to sell overseas, V Creations will take over the sales and distribution of figurines in India.” The collectibles are sold through retail outlets and the company’s website. In India, it will be sold through Amazon.in.
“Though collecting figures of marvel heroes like Thor or Iron-man isn’t new, it is a new landscape for Indian cinema ,” says Dhivya Subramaniam, co-founder of Carbon Collectibles.
Subramaniam said, “The market is very nascent, but it is slowly picking up now mainly because it is superstar. We have exported 40,000 Kabali figurines to India and expect the demand to go up as high as one lakh.” So far only one variant is sold in the market but as the demand goes up the team is planning to launch more variants after the movie release. Cost of one figurine is SGD 39.90 and in India, it might be priced around ₹1,000, she added.
Silver coins too ‘Carry the lucky Superstar Rajinikanth with you,’ if not in person, at least in a silver coin with embossed image of actor as cast in the mega budget Kabali .
Kerala-based Muthoot Fincorp has joined the Kabali mania gripping the film industry in Tamil Nadu, by launching silver coins for sale through its branches all over the country.
The silver coins will be made available in 5 gm (₹350), 10 gm (₹700), ₹20 gm coin and pendant (₹1,400), said Keyur Shah, CEO-Precious Metals, Muthoot Pappachan Group. Booking for the 999 pure silver coins will begin tomorrow but will be made available only after the movie release on July 22, he told newspersons.
As an associate sponsor, Muthoot will be the exclusive onground merchandise partner of Kabali , he said.
The coins will be available in nearly 2,000 branches of Muthoot Fincorp, which will kick off ‘Carry Lucky Superstar with You’ campaign from tomorrow in television and newspapers, said Thomas John Muthoot Jr, Director, Muthoot Pappachan Group. “We plan to spend nearly ₹20 crore on various campaigns,” he said.
The campaigns will be in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.
